The banner editor

Open a domain and select Edit banner. Changes show at once in the preview on the right, which runs the real banner script. Owners and Admins can edit; Viewers can look.

Layout Looks like
Bar A strip along the bottom of the page.
Box A card in the bottom-left corner (the default).
Dialog A window in the middle of the page, over a dimmed background.

The first screen has Deny, Settings and Accept all. Settings opens the second screen, with a switch per category and the list of cookies in each.

The Detailed view (instead of Simple) puts the categories and their cookies on the first screen, as many older banners did. With the bar layout, the detailed view opens as a dialog so the list fits.

Choose the button colour from the presets or any colour, and the background and text colours. Light and Dark fill in a matching pair. The text on the buttons switches between dark and light by itself so it stays readable.

Dark for visitors using dark mode gives the banner a second pair of background and text colours for visitors whose device is set to dark mode. Preview it with Light / Dark above the preview.

  • Deny on the first screen. On by default. Data protection authorities in the EU expect refusing to be as easy as accepting, so the editor warns you if you turn it off.
  • Powered by CookieDoo. A small link at the bottom of the banner. It always shows on the Free plan.

The banner comes with texts in 25 languages. Under Languages, keep all of them or choose some; the Free plan shows two. Under Texts, pick a language and change the title, the main text and the button labels; anything you leave empty uses the built-in text, shown as a placeholder.

The visitor sees the first language the banner offers from: the page address (with data-language-auto), the data-language attribute, then the browser’s languages.

  • Save keeps a draft. Visitors do not see it.
  • Publish makes the draft live. The domain must be verified. Each publish gets a new version number, which is stored with every consent.
  • Discard changes returns the draft to the published version.

The page shows Unpublished changes while the draft differs from what visitors see. A published banner reaches visitors within about five minutes, because the banner settings are cached briefly.
